Shoot: Images

During the shoot we took a number of images of the set in for the actors to identify the location and also to set the seen. Here are a few I took:

The last two images we have took as an option in order to shoot for more because I found that the atmosphere and the setting of matches the genre we intend to convey.

I think these were appropriate in order to meet the conventions of the genre we are portraying, in terms of horror in the research done it shows that a number forests are used especially from the film we were inspired from being The Children. The use of an isolation place was also appropriate in showing the psychological and how the boy is along. This is the exact locations that we wanted. As the forrest shoot went very well I think this was enough in order for the loss we made in not being able to shoot at a graveyard as we were not legally allowed. This worked very well and I think these locations fitted exactly with the narrative we wanted to show.

Action Plan

As of today we have two weeks before half term in which we would like the final print and video products completed, this includes the trailer, poster and magazine front page. I have mainly been concerntrating on the trailer as I have shot most of it. Beth has concerntrated on the magazine and poster and has created a number of titles for both the print products and the titles in the trailer being used.

On Friday as we had no access into our normal classroom this has resulted in a block of getting onto the media server in order to edit the trailer. On Friday I therefore looked with Beth at the slogan we intended to include from the pitch, I have posted this in the previous post and will act on the comments given. On Friday me and Beth also looked at an action plan for the rest of the project and would like to have the final print and video done by the end of half term in order to leave enough time for the evaluation and any problems which may occur.

Today I was going to concertrate on finishing the trailer from the comments we have recieved, however a number of problems have occured with the classroom not being avaliable and also the fact that Adobe does not respond when opening the project. This has become very frustrating considering that we have a tight deadline to complete within.

Yesterday I took home on my memory stick the trailer, as I have installed Adobe on my home computer, however as this is a newer version it is asking for each file which is very time consuming and therefore was not helpful when completeing at home. I will however try this again in order to ensure that the trailer is completed in before hand.

Tonight I have decided to sketch some potential looks for the poster and magazine front page; what each one should contain from the research done, what we will include the match the trailer and the general layout and content for them.I know Beth has already looked into research for posters and magazines but sketching these will allow time to be safed when creating them.  I will look to scan these in tonight so on Thursday we can concerntrate to edit any more feedback for the trailer and create the poster and magazine front cover. I also have had probelms in getting a image for the magazine and poster, as the young lives quite far away. From this I am going to use another actor to take an image by covering their head with a hoody and ensuring that the lighting can allow the image to match the type of genre. This may not work but I am planning to test this tonight. Me and Beth have a still image from the shoot which could be used but we feel that the image could portray more and by taking it professional this can result in a better magazine and poster. I will see how this image turns out tonight or me and Beth did decide on Friday that we could get the rest of the magazine  and poster created and then insert the image after or during the holidays as this will be easier and the best possible way I would be able to get an image of the actual actor.

This is the magazine cover which a still image has been used from the trailer.

Titles: Tagline

Me and Beth have now edited the titles to be included and changed the tagline a little in order to make it more effective in appealing to the audience. We have used the same effect of the black background to portray the horror genre in the trailer and the use of red represents blood which is often represented in horror genre films as a big convention of them.

This will be included in the poster and magazine in a white font in order to link the three products.

Editing: Static Effect

Within the trailer I would like to include a static effect for the flashback in the start of the footage, this will be done in order to fully justfy the timing of the flashback ad reassure the audience that it is the past. For this I have looked in Adobe Premier however there is no effect for this to be done and therefore as there is very little access to the interent within school I am going to do some further reading at home in order to find how this effect can be implemented.

In the meantime within the lesson I am going to continue to edit the trailer and planning to complete this by Thursday in order to begin more detail on the poster and magazine. I will complete the editing and look for audience feedback in order to suggest how this can be improved, this will further allow improvements to be made. Today within the lesson in terms of editng I have increased the speed and duration towards the end of the clip as identified in the research I completed; the end of the trailer is usually fast pace. This draws and suspenses the audience to watch the film. I have also included further sound for the flashback to be playing the background and also the name of the background music being 'Killing Children' from 'Silent Hill' also evidently links into the trailer itself and the context.
Over the next week I will look to fully complete the trailer with comments I recieve from feedback on the blog and people I have asked to view the trailer. In the lesson me and Beth discussed the poster and feel it would be best if we take a camera image for the poster and the magazine, this wil ensure that the poster and magazine are more refined and look more professional. From this I said that i could take images of the young boy looking frigntened indicating the start of the film to emphasise the vulnerbaility of the young biy and attracting the audience when the trailer contradicts this; or by showing an image of a demented or deranged young boy which may be more effective considering the classfication we plan to give and the target audience.

I will be able to take a image next week as the young actor lives quite away and with the dark nights the only time avaliable is at the weekend in which it the right lighting can be used in order for it to look scary. I have decided to take a couple of images that can be used as a full image or the image can be cut such as the young boys face can be placed on top certain text in a magazine to emphaise empowerment. This is a feature I feature established in the research I did in to Jennifer's Body which I found very appealing.

Footage: Editing................

Below is the footage which I have edited so far which has developed. Before the chrsitmas break I downloaded Adobe Premier in order to be able to edit most of it during the holdiay allowing about 6 weeks for the print products to be completed. However because the Adobe Premier in school is an older version it did not allow me to open the file without all the clips which I did not have.  This has resulted in a back lock for the editing process as me and Beth were both hoping to have the trailer finished by chrsitmas. The editing has been done in order to ensure the trailer flows through the story, i also have established that I need to add more depth into the actual storyline in order for the audience to understand what is happending and therefore attract them to watch the potential film. Therefore this weekend I have decided to add a voiceover to the trailer in order to set the story at the beginning of the trailer where ther is a little pause before the dramatic music begins to play. I feel myself that the clip could do with some more editing and will be working on this during the next week and have also posted up on my blog in order to recieve feedback off an audience.
